The Polish Literary Bibliography series has been published since 1954 and was conceived by Professor Stefan Vrtel-Wierczynski, the first Director of the Current Bibliography Department and mentor for the Bibliography Foundation Team (BFT). The Polish Literary Bibliography was established by the BFT according to academic standards, taking into account each text described therein. Up until the year 2000 - 45 annual volumes were published, containing bibliography for the period 1944/45 - 1988. The turning point was the transition from printed to digital form, when the 1989 volume was published as a CD-ROM in 2001. At present the Bibliography for the years 1990 - 1995 is an online database available at http://pbl.ibl.poznan.pl. The types of resources included in the Polish Literary Bibliography range from works relating to the Theory and History of Literature, to Literary, Theatre and Film Criticism, as well as Contemporary Literature and literature per se. PLB takes in consideration books edited in Poland in Polish and foreign languages and edited abroad in Polish and in foreign languages concerning Polish writers or when the Author is a Pole. The first editions of scholarly books, also literary and dramatic anthologies, often have tables of contents included in their descriptions. List of periodical's sources includes all-Polish newspapers, literary, cultural and socio-cultural periodicals, publications series edited by scholarly and scientific centers from sciences of literature, selected titles from Polish newspapers published abroad and foreign periodicals devoted to issues of Slavonic literatures. The PBL records also Polish literary and para-literary texts (published as books and separately in Polish periodicals) and Polish language periodicals edited in exile (Polish Diaspora periodicals), and foreign literary texts (books and texts in periodicals) translated into Polish. Other literary forms are registered in addition, such as dramatic performances, radio plays, TV theatre and annual production of Polish feature films. I. Theory Of Literature (chapter 1) II. Part II Part II, the biggest in the Bibliography, is opened by the chapter on the History of Literature (with a chapter of general information and other parts referring to each literary period). The next chapter, Contemporary Literature, is introduced by information about general works, subsequent works on drama, criticism, poetry and prose. The section about literary events is divided into: copyright, cultural policy, Literary events, competitions, prizes, awards, unions and associations of writers, literary life in particular Polish towns and finally, Polish literary life in other countries. The chapter on Special Issues contains material about bibliographies, catalogues and dictionaries, periodical presses, Polish literary contacts with other countries, literature for children and young people, folk and regional literature, diary literature, literary themes and motifs as well as publishing houses. Part II also contains such chapters as Organization of Literary Science, Didactics of Literature, Anonymous Authors Compositions, Anthologies (each position is provided with an index of authors). The largest chapter, Personal entries, is an alphabetic register of Polish writers with their bibliography.

Part III This part of the Bibliography registers various forms of reception of foreign literatures translated into Polish, and articles, reviews and books about writers who are not translated into Polish, as well as literary issues in Polish books and periodicals printed in foreign languages in Poland. The material described comes from Polish periodicals and Polish-language periodicals abroad (emigration periodicals) and contains books records of foreign-languages writers published in Polish in various countries. In this section circa 150 foreign literatures are collected; ancient and modern. This is gradually enlarged upon the reception of new literatures not yet translated into Polish, or of literatures belonging to the former federal republics (Soviet Union, Yugoslavia). The structure of every foreign literature entry contains: a history of literature, contemporary literature (with literary events), personal entries such as an alphabetic register of writers with their bibliography, anthologies and collections, anonymous compositions and special issues (literary themes and motifs, folk literature, periodical press, publishing houses). Issues comprising more than one literature are located in the chapter on general literature (for example Slavonic literature, Scandinavian literature, Ancient literature etc.).

Part IV This chapter is divided into four parts and preceded by an introduction with information about prizes, awards, theatre education as well as general problems of theatre and film people, with personal entries of Polish actors, stage managers, directors and scenographers (the structure of this section is the same as in Personal entries in Part II: Polish Literature). The first part, Theatre, comprises problems connected with the Theory of Theatre, History of Theatre (divided into historical periods), Sociology and Documentation of Theatre, and Issues in Contemporary Theatre (after 1945). It contains information about theatrical festivals, repertoires of Polish dramatic and puppet theatres (1990-1995) with information of its performances and reviews, information about amateur and student theatre, information about Polish theatres active abroad (the material is divided into each country) and information about performances of Polish dramas by foreign theatres. The second part, Film, includes information connected with Theory and History of Film, Contemporary Film Issues, Themes And Topics in Film. It also contains an alphabetic register of Polish feature films, TV fiction and documentary films (thematically connected with literature or theatre) produced in the years 1990-1995. Foreign films with scripts based on Polish literature are also included. The third part, Radio, contains materials referring to connections of Polish literature with radio broadcasting, plus a register of dramas adapted for broadcasting and documentaries (about writers, literature, theater and film) aired on all-Polish public radio. The last part, Television, has the same structure as Radio. There is a register of TV performances with information of reviews and a list of TV broadcasts as well as a series (on writers, literature, theatre and film) broadcast on all-Polish programmes of public Television.
